HP laptop 15-dy2xxx. I purchased and added my files using thumb drives. It appears that my uploaded data is on the cloud and the laptop. I get messages about overloaded storage. I am 79 years old and this is confusing me. Thank you, Bill

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

I think you have perhaps added your files to your OneDrive (Cloud) storage.

If that is what has happened, the following might be useful...

Cloud Storage services, including OneDrive, provide "off line" storage for data.

Real Life Comparison:

Cloud Storage is bit like renting a Storage locker where you might store your extra furniture or treasures.

OneDrive is usually "automatically" switched "ON" when you log into your computer using your Microsoft account.

OneDrive has some of the same named folders as are found in your "normal" account space.

True -  Having same named of folders in two locations can range from confusing to irritating.

Unlike a physical Storage locker where you must drive to the location to see your stuff, OneDrive provides the option of storing the files you add to the storage on "just the cloud" or "both cloud and computer".

OneDrive is not awful -- it can be confusing if you've not used Cloud Storage before.

The service is a little bit like a "backup", though I strongly suggest you do not depend on it.

OneDrive is considered fairly secure as long as you do not "Share" your stuff with others.

Yes, if your data is in your OneDrive folder(s) and you do not want it there, the files / folders can be copied / moved into your regular "on computer" folders.

As always, be careful moving files -- ask a friend or family member for help if you are unsure.

Documents

For example,

Replace "Bill" with the name of your account folder:

C:\Users\Bill\OneDrive\Documents

C:\Users\Bill\Documents

I've included a few links to "What is OneDrive" articles .

Each article explains the OneDrive service in different ways.
