Hi @ananth1997

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the situation so clearly—and I’m genuinely sorry your HP 15s-fr2xxx laptop is showing a “Windows failed to start” message with boot configuration errors. This typically means the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) is corrupted or missing, preventing Windows from loading.

Let’s walk through a focused recovery process to help restore your system.

Step-by-Step: Fix “Boot Configuration Data Missing or Contains Errors” on Windows 11

1. Create a Windows 11 Bootable USB

Use another working PC to create recovery media:

  • Go to: Windows 11 Installation Media
  • Click Download now under “Create Windows 11 Installation Media”.
  • Use a USB drive with at least 8 GB capacity.
  • Follow the tool’s instructions to create the bootable USB.

2. Boot from USB on Your HP Laptop

  • Insert the USB into your laptop.
  • Power on and immediately press Esc repeatedly to open the Startup Menu.
  • Press F9 to open Boot Device Options.
  • Select the USB drive and press Enter.

3. Access Recovery Environment

  • On the Windows Setup screen, click Next.
  • Click Repair your computer (bottom left).
  • Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt.

4. Rebuild the Boot Configuration Data

In Command Prompt, type the following commands one by one:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd

  • Press Enter after each command.
  • If prompted to add installation to boot list, type Y and press Enter.

These commands repair the Master Boot Record and rebuild the BCD.

5. Restart and Test

  • Close Command Prompt.
  • Click Continue to exit and boot into Windows.

If successful, your system should start normally.

Let me know if the recovery environment loads or if you need help creating the USB. If the issue persists after rebuilding BCD, I can guide you through restoring Windows using System Image Recovery or Reset options.

You're doing everything right—this process should help bring your laptop back to life.
