My old hard drive burnt out so i bought a new one and replaced it. my Laptop came with windows 8 pre installed, but i have a old copy of windows 7 on disc. went into legacy mode in bios and still wont install. It downloads all the files and then once its finished i get "Windows setup could not configure windows on this computer's hardware"

OK...
Here's what you need to do to overcome that error...
Download the drivers from this link below (second file listed -- 64 bit). Do not use the updated driver suggested on the yellow bar.
Extract (copy) the files onto a usb flash drive without the folder.
With the flash drive and W7 installation media in the PC, boot from the W7 installation media.
After you select the install now option, select the Drive Options - Advanced menu, then select the Load Driver option.
You should now see the storage driver files listed.
If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.
Follow the prompts and hopefully, W7 will complete the installation.

Hi RyMy90
Check HDD setting in BIOS. It may be set to RAID.
Change this setting to AHCI.
Also, Windows 7 does not like Fast Boot if it is enabled in BIOS.
I forgot to add two other possible issues:
1. Run the disc under UEFI boot options as your PC is probably using GPT.
2. Intel 6th and 7th gen chipsets don't have USB 2.0 support. You need to modify Win 7 by injecting USB 3.0 drivers on USB install stick. Then use USB 3.0 ports for mouse and keyboard during the install.
Any one of the above items can be causing a problem.

Hi, @RyMy90 :
What is the full model number or product number of your dv6?
The product number can be found on the same sticker as the serial number.
If your notebook has an Intel 3rd generation processor and series 7 chipset, there is a driver you need to install when you first go to install W7.
I will give you that process once you provide the information I requested.
