PC is HP model 14 laptop, win10
I am having a boot up problem, win10 will not boot up.
The PC opens to an HP emblem, and the dotted line wheel spins but no load of win 10, I let this proceed many times for many minutes.
Problem started when Chrome browser would not open. Also Google drive kept saying it is not working due to an old version.
So I removed and re-installed chrome. All ok.
Tried to updated Google Drive- upgraded to latest version but still not being recognized as such.
Ran HP tests, (f2) no problems found.
Decided to restore windows from a win7 image. As soon as I tried that , got an error message (bad media, i think).
rebooted PC, said "no file system installed"- not good.
Then restored another image from Clonezilla. Image was restorable, and installed without issue.
Same problem, no boot up.
Tried USB port boot --- both repair/restore and Windows 10 bootable media USB drive restore failed to boot. Both boot up on another HP laptop.
when I try to boot them I get the HP screen, then another window opens very quickly disappears.
Same happened if I boot Win10 from Boot manager, but this tells me it will begin automatic repairs, the other window pops open then closes, and a blank screen results.
So NO Microsoft software will boot!
I also noticed both HD activity light are solid on when trying to boot.
Clonzilla and Ubuntu both boot no problem from USB.
I also followed steps here with no luck.
https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/windows-10-wont-boot/
no boot of safe mode
tried to turn off fast boot, could not find a setting in BIOS
Can anyone help me on this?
Thanks
Dan

Unless I am mistaken, your product ID is 9XM12UA#ABA and your system has cloud restore.
Go here with a 32gb flash, enter your product ID and follow instructions

Thanks for the reply and the proposed solution. I created the cloud restore usb thumbdrive successfully.
Then I put it into the problem PC, it would not boot.
Again, HP comes up, wheel turns, then I see a window open the quickly close, then blank screen.
So PC just wont boot into a win program, will boot a linux app.

The recovery USB should have booted just like the Ubuntu USB***. Were you requested to press any key to boot the USB? If it has an LED did you see the LED blinking?
I believe this is your bios or is similar. Not all of the menus are shown.
Please go into the bios and set factory defaults. I do not know exactly how your bios works so set defaults for each page. For booting windows you should set the date and time to local and not GMT . Makes sure it looks like the one shown in that document especially the security menu with secure boot enabled and factory keys. If there is a setting for the drive (the UEFI ?) make sure AHCI is selected. The UEFI device configuration menu is not shown for some reason. If possible can you take a picture of that menu and post it?
Try rebooting and verify that the USB is being read and booted. You need to have secure boot enabled.
*** You mentioned the Ubuntu USB booted. The Ubuntu install USB boots up Ubuntu but does not install it on the drive. Did you select the option to install on the drive? Is the drive the original drive? Did you install Ubuntu on the drive and got it to boot off the disk drive instead of the USB?
When you ran the F2 did you do a pass through the disk drive test?

BIOS is AMI F.70
Pages are
MAin
Security - I reset to factory
Config
boot option
exit- Loaded setup defaults
"Makes sure it looks like the one shown in that document especially the security menu."
what document are you refering to?
At power up I selected f9, boot , selected usb drive. No led to see
"If there is a setting for the drive (the UEFI make sure AHCI is selected."
no AHCI shows on any menu
"Try rebooting and verify that the USB is being read and booted."
all I can says is I get HP screen, wheel turns, a window flashes on scree, screen goes blank (lite blue)
"*** You mentioned the Ubuntu USB booted. The Ubuntu install USB boots up Ubuntu but does not install it on the drive. Did you select the option to install on the drive? Is the drive the original drive? Did you install Ubuntu on the drive and got it to boot off the disk drive instead of the USB? "
I did not try to install.
ran f2 test, was ok willl run again
Thanks dan

What caused the problem in the first place?
Power glitch? Upgrade to windows 11?
Microsoft or HP update? Add a new device, memory, etc?
For the cloud recovery, you download an application. You run that application and it will download the restore image and then create a bootable USB. There will be number of files on the USB. I suspect something is wrong with the cloud recover USB. It should take one hour or more to create the USB even on a fast system.
Can you scan the USB using another system for errors?
I guessed at your product ID, did you verify the id was correct?

If you repartition the boot drive for your laptop you may lose the HP_TOOLS folder that is in the HP partition. That folder contains backup of BIOS in the event a BIOS restores is needed.
It should have the following
If you restore from the cloud recovery can you look and see if those items were put back in? They should have the bios that originally came with your system but I am just guessing.
It is possible to update the diagnostics in that partition or to create a USB boot with diagnostics:
get HP's UEFI diagnostics here
Look for the phrase 'issues outside the OS',
expand the '+'symbol and click the DOWNLOAD button.
Your recovery USB should look something like this this is my recovery ,not yours so dates and contents may be different.

Your boot drive should be the "C" drive and that should be the SSD. The SSD is the drive to reinstall the OS on. I have not used dual boot in some time but the windows secure boot cannot be enabled when trying to dual boot. Do not put ubuntu on the HDD and Windows on the SSD, that is going to be a problem. Best solution is to buy a 3rd party app that supports dual boot for both windows 10 and Ubuntu but I suspect there is still a problem with Secure boot. What I do is remove the boot drive and push in the Ubuntu but I have secure boot disabled land both drives are MBR not UEFI.
Unless I am sadly mistaken, the Cloud Recovery software requires factory BIOS setup which means Secure Boot must be enabled.
