@okalu, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it must be to lose your game progress and repeatedly powerwash your HP Chromebook without resolving the issue. Let’s go through how you can recover your apps and possibly sync your game data if it was backed up.

Understanding Powerwash (Factory Reset) on Chromebooks:

Powerwashing your Chromebook erases all local data, including:

  • Downloaded files
  • App data not synced to your Google Account
  • Game progress stored locally

However, any data synced to your Google Account or backed up to cloud services can still be recovered.

Steps to Restore Apps After Powerwash

Sign in with the same Google Account
After Powerwashing, always sign in using the same Google account used before the reset. This is key for recovering anything that was synced.

Check App Sync Settings

  • Go to Settings > Accounts > Sync and Google services
  • Make sure “Sync everything” is enabled
  • Check that “Apps” and “Settings” are toggled ON

Reinstall Android Apps (If Applicable)

  • Open the Play Store
  • Tap your Profile icon > Manage apps & device > Manage
  • Tap “Installed” dropdown and select “Not installed”
  • You'll see a list of apps previously downloaded
  • Tap “Install” next to the apps you want to restore

Recover Game Progress (If Possible)

Many games sync data with Google Play Games. If you used that:

  • Open Google Play Games app
  • Sign in with the same account
  • Games that support sync should auto-load your progress

If your game doesn't support cloud save, unfortunately, progress may not be recoverable after a Powerwash

Check for Backed-Up Files in Google Drive

Go to Google Drive and look in:

My Drive

Backups

Google Photos (for saved media files)

Pro Tips for Future:

Turn on backup for your files and app data:
Settings > Advanced > Privacy and security > Back up and reset

Use cloud-enabled games or link progress to accounts like Facebook or Google Play for future recovery.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
