Hello community
I have an old hp pavilion vd5 1125nr
windows vista 64 bit
i want to upgrade to 500GB SSD
RAM to max 8GB
and not sure what kind of CPU I can upgrade to, currently it has a AMD Turion X2 mobile processor RM-72 / 2.1 GHz, not sure if I can upgrade to a better quad core CPU AMD or Intel something that will speed up and let me work different applications at the same, time the computer is running slow at 100% all the time
wifi card is really slow as well, not sure if I can upgrade since I read somewhere that you cannot upgrade just anything to HP computers or an usb wife card may do the job and work work better
also do you happen to know if HP probable will upgrade the software for free to windows 10, the computer currently has windows vista home premium
thanks again for any help community

Hi again
this morning I was able to install an old hard drive that It was in another HP laptop with windows 10 on it and is working well is just the CPU that is working at 100% so my question is
can I still upgrade the CPU if so what would be the best i can upgrade there maybe something I can upgrade and probably it can be found on Amazon 😂, also can add more memory for better performance am planning on giving away this laptop to someone I know for school work but I want to be working good since the person can afford to get one right now
thanks for your help

Your PC is so old that no one sells processors for it anymore, even if it was upgradeable.
The hardware is so old that no one today carries drivers for it, including HP, and if you tried to force Windows 10 onto it, you would find that MS probably won't have drivers for it, either. Plus, there is no "upgrade path" from Vista to Win10, so you would lose everything in the process of having to install Win10 from scratch -- and you would have to buy a license since there is no license carry over from Vista.
In addition, since laptops need OEM drivers and MS does not supply those, the drivers that MS installs will be generic and some hardware probably will not work well, if at all.
As to newer OSs, the only one that might work is Windows 7, but MS has stopped supporting that so if this PC accesses the Internet, it's going to get infected almost immediately.
So basically, you're stuck with what you have.

I'm surprised that the swap worked -- but have to tell you that what you did was a license violation -- because the Windows license with OEM machines is tied to the machine, not to the owner. So, basically, you're going to be giving away a PC that has an invalid license on it. Not really a good idea.
As to the CPU upgrade, I would be very surprised if you could even buy a CPU the age of your PC to do such an upgrade. HP certainly would not have it for sale and other places only carry such things for a few years.
I don't know how much RAM you have it it now, but if it is 4GB, then spending money on 4GB more or on an 8GB stick is wasting the money -- they SSD will give you much more performance gain than adding more memory.

@WAWood
thanks for your help
if there is no way to update the CPU I guess there is no point to try to upgrade memory and SSD because the CPU will continue to run at 100% all the time, I guess I just no gonna give away that laptop In such conditions, but I do have another one that is already upgrade but small screen that can go away in step. I don’t think im in trouble with the windows since I bought the license myself actually it was certified by Microsoft after input the code
again thanks for your help
