Hi @blo3nd
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query.
I understand that the laptop is showing a System Fan Error during startup, and you've also noticed excessive heating. This typically indicates that the cooling fan is not operating properly or is obstructed. Continuing to use the laptop in this condition may lead to overheating, reduced performance, or unexpected shutdowns. I would request you to please follow the steps:
Perform a Hard Reset
- Shut down the laptop.
- Disconnect the AC adapter.
- Remove any connected USB devices.
- If the battery is removable, remove it.
- Press and hold the Power button for 15–20 seconds.
- Reconnect the AC adapter and turn the laptop back on.
Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
- Turn off the laptop.
- Turn it back on and repeatedly press the Esc key.
- From the Startup Menu, press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- Select Component Tests.
- Run the Fan Test.
- Also run the System Test to check for any additional hardware issues.
If the fan test reports a failure, note the Failure ID displayed on the screen.
Check for BIOS Updates
If the laptop can boot into Windows:
- Open HP Support Assistant or visit the HP Support website. https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
- Check for and install the latest BIOS update available for your laptop model.
- Restart the laptop after the update.
Verify Windows Power Settings
- Open Control Panel > Power Options.
- Select Balanced or HP Recommended power plan.
- Ensure the cooling policy is set to Active, if available.
Note the Exact Error Message
- Turn on the laptop and note the complete error message and share to assist further.
Take care and have an amazing day!
