Hello I need to reinstall the system. but you need a product key. In Microsoft, when checking the key, it indicates that the system is installed by the manufacturer of the product, contact HP. how do i find out the key? The hard disk on the system was installed, the system failed, you need to reinstall the system.

Hello Troya,
If Operating System was provided from HP, you no need to worry about product key when you re-install OS.
By default product key will be activated, since its an OEM image.
You can go ahead and re-install OS.
"I work for HP."
Regards,
Ruben

I had the same issue in May of this year. My HDD died and I took it to Best Buy where I bought the laptop. They helped to reinstall the software and new HDD and charged me a hefty fee (I could have bought a new laptop for that price). This week I started getting, "This copy of Windows is not genuine" messages. I went back to Best Buy and after charging me another hefty fee (that is 2 laptops I could have bought) to investigate the issue, they said the key was automatically entered by HP and that I should contact HP to fix the issue.
I'd appreciate if you could help me to get a valid key.
Thanks!

If your laptop originally came with Windows 10, then all you need to do is to re-install Windows 10.
When it get to the part asking for the product key, skip it.
The Windows 10 product key is embedded on the motherboard.
Windows 10 will automatically activate.
If your original OS was not Windows 10 but Windows 7instead then it is slightly different.

I have Windows 7.
Please let me know the steps to take.
Thanks.
The guys at Best Buy are stupid and should have known better.
Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Pro ?
Try www.computersurgeons.com ; you'll end up spending $27
I have no personal experience with them.

@leee488
Thanks for the advice. I have visited computersurgeons.com and will let you know how it goes.
FYI - I went back to Best Buy and spoke with the manager. The guy who helped me last summer to replace the HDD and reinstall the OS was fired and the manager acted as if the issue was closed. I tried to explain that I still need a solution for my current situation and he suggested that my best course of action would be to buy a new laptop. Gotta love Best Buy.

Pathetic that the Best Buy employee didn't know any better.
I am sure given Best Buy's resources that they would have a copy of a genuine HP Windows 7 DVD around.
