OMEN by HP 15-dc1011nt
Microsoft Windows 11

I am an architecture student and one time my computer shut down because of overheat when I ran multiple programmes. I recovered the laptop yet my computer always makes really loud noises and I cannot use it in the library or the office because it is really disturbing also it overheats really quick like I cannot touch the laptop. The fans work okay and there is no dust I clean it regularly but the noise never fades. I would appreciate a good solution, thanks. btw I tried safe mode, doesnt work..

Hi @esinasan,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your OMEN by HP 15 laptop is overheating and producing loud fan noise, it could indicate an issue with the cooling system or airflow. Overheating can negatively impact the performance of your laptop and may even cause damage in the long run.

Here are some steps you can take to address the problem.

  • Check for Dust and Debris: Over time, dust and debris can accumulate inside the laptop, blocking the air vents and impeding proper airflow. This can lead to overheating. Turn off your laptop, unplug it, and carefully clean the vents and fans using compressed air or a soft brush. Make sure not to damage any components while cleaning.
  • Use a Cooling Pad: If you use your laptop on a soft surface like a bed or a pillow, it can obstruct the airflow and contribute to overheating. Place your laptop on a hard, flat surface, and consider using a cooling pad with built-in fans to help keep it cool.
  • Update System and Graphics Drivers: Outdated drivers can sometimes cause performance issues. Check HP's official website for driver updates and install the latest ones for your laptop model.
  • Adjust Power Settings: In your laptop's power settings, make sure that you are using the "Balanced" or "Power Saver" mode instead of the "High-Performance" mode, as it will reduce the CPU's power usage and generate less heat.
  • Close Unnecessary Programs: Running too many applications simultaneously can strain the laptop's resources, leading to increased heat generation. Close any unnecessary programs and keep only the ones you are actively using.
  • Update BIOS: Check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop on HP's website. Sometimes, BIOS updates can include improvements in thermal management.
  • Use Task Manager to Identify CPU Usage: Open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and go to the "Processes" tab to identify if any specific application is consuming excessive CPU resources. If you find any, consider closing or uninstalling them.
  • Elevate the Laptop: Elevating the rear of the laptop slightly can help improve airflow. You can use a laptop stand or even improvise with household items to raise the back end.
  • Thermal Paste Replacement: If the laptop is relatively old and you have experience in hardware maintenance, consider reapplying thermal paste on the CPU and GPU. Over time, thermal paste can dry out and lose its efficiency in conducting heat away from the components.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
