Hi @kp0561,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP 17 laptop is experiencing a hardware issue related to power. Since replacing the battery and trying reset shortcuts hasn't worked, here are a few steps you can follow to troubleshoot the issue.

Hard Reset

  • Unplug the charger and remove the battery (if it's removable).
  • Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds to discharge any remaining power.
  • Reconnect the battery and charger, then try turning on the laptop again.

Check Charger and Power Port

  • Inspect the charger: Ensure the charger is working properly by testing it with another device or a different charger with the same specifications.
  • Power port: Check the power port for any damage or debris that might prevent proper charging. Clean it gently with compressed air if needed.

Power Supply Bypass

  • Try starting the laptop with the battery removed but with the charger connected. This will help determine if there's an issue with the power supply or internal components.

Drain the Power

  • Unplug the charger, remove the battery, and hold the power button down for 60 seconds.
  • Then, plug the charger back in without the battery and see if the laptop powers on.

BIOS Reset (CMOS Reset)

  • Some laptops have a small reset hole on the underside to reset the CMOS. Use a paperclip to press the reset button for a few seconds and see if that helps.

Test with an External Monitor

  • If the power LED flashes, but there’s no display, connect an external monitor to rule out a screen issue.

Check for Overheating or Hardware Issues

  • If the fan or other components have been faulty, it might prevent the laptop from starting up. Listen for any unusual sounds or check if the laptop is overheating.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4,

I have done all the attempts but the laptop shows no reaction.
Only the LED next to the power plug flashes red when the power supply and battery are installed.
The LED flashes white when only the power supply without the battery is connected.
I have now removed the mainboard and replaced the CR2035 battery. In addition, I cleaned the fan and cooling and reassembled the whole part.
Unfortunately, exactly the same result.

I guess the laptop really can't be saved.
