Hello, I have a hp pavalion 17 198ca laptop. It recently stuck in an preparing for automatic repair loop. F11 recover option failed (it just lead to boot again).

F 10 option works and gets me into bios.

f 2 gets me into diagnostic tool

escape key does work but recover still fail.

Is there any way to use Microsoft system recovery disk (DVD or USB) or such to skip the loop and reinstall windows fresh? If you are willing to delete all content in the HP pavilion laptop,

Thanks

Hi:

You should be able to use a bootable Windows installation media to reinstall Windows.

You would tap the ESC key and select the F9 boot options menu, then select the USB flash drive or DVD and press the Enter key to boot from the installation media.

Thank you so much for replying, but how can I do this when I do not have the windows registration key as the HP laptop came with windows 10 preinstalled. So I do not have the data for the product key. Is the key in bios?

Is the windows product key in the bios? Will it work if I don't provide the key?

Is the installation media the one in https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10. I currently have both the USB version of the it and the system recovery disk (can I boot from that instead)?.

Can I boot from the system recovery disk, if so how?

If I have both a system image (and system recovery disk), can I use it to restore windows? I have done so before but that was when it let me get into windows recovery environment. How should I get into this?

Also, F8 key doesn't let me get into recovery environment. It just reboots the computer.

Thanks you for taking the time and effort to reply

You're very welcome.

The Windows product key is encrypted in your PC's BIOS.

You do not need the product key to reinstall W10.

You can either clean install W10 with the USB media you made and I gave you the instructions for how to boot from either the USB W10 installation media or the DVD recovery drive.

F8 is not the recovery environment.

It is F11.

But you should be able to boot the recovery DVD by using the F9 key as I indicated yesterday.

Thank you so much for answering, so would trying from booting from DVD work?

What happen if I replace the hard drive?

Thanks

You're very welcome.

Yes, if the DVD is a recovery DVD, booting from it should reinstall Windows on a new drive.
