printer not selecting double sided

Welcome to the HP Community --

Printers are not generally aware of what they are printing.

What you do depends on your printer model, your Operating System on the device you are using, and the app or software you are using.

For example,

Options are a function of the application or software you are using to open, view,  configure, and submit the job to the printer.

"not selecting double sided" might be a result of the printer not supporting automatic duplex, too.

Some printers only print in duplex using a manual method to print one side, flip, and print the other side.

"not selecting double sided" might be the result of the printer losing track of whether the duplex feature is installed.

General Examples - Relevant to Windows

Duplex feature installed? (Model Dependent)

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click Printer > Printer Properties > Tab Device Settings

OR

Windows 11

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners

Select Printer > Printer Properties > Tab Device Settings

OR

Next,

Under Installable Options > Automatic Duplexing Unit > Select / Verify Installed > OK

Reminder:  Check Tray # = Installed

Duplex unit attached to the printer? (Model Dependent)

If there is a Duplexer unit attached to the back of the printer, consider re-seating (removing/replacing) the Duplexer box. If you do remove the duplexer, take a moment to check inside the printer cavity for tiny stuck paper bits – while stuck paper would normally result in a “paper jam” error, the condition might generate problems with printing duplex.
