Well on 3rd week of trying to isolate problem. I have reinstalled, formatted, repaired, DISM, SFC, Dskchk, etc both windows 10 and 11.
Clean installed windows 11 this morning, installed all updates
still 3 already problems and I have installed nothing beyond Chrome
a Status Access Violation in Chrome within 1st hour
Still see red squiggly vertical lines on buttons on Edge and Chrome and various images backgrounds.
File Explore crashes more than it works. I tried the delete folder trick
Anyone? I assume AMD/Microsoft aren't playing nice...and left me holding the bag or the HP laptop has a HARDWARE problem. Though I tested the memory and SSD with no errors.
Anyone?

Hi @laurd,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Dealing with persistent issues on your HP ENVY X360 with an AMD Ryzen™ 5 5625U can be quite frustrating, especially after trying numerous troubleshooting steps. Given the symptoms you've described, here are some steps to help further diagnose and potentially resolve the issues.
Check for Firmware and Driver Updates
- BIOS Update: Ensure your BIOS/UEFI firmware is up to date. This can often resolve compatibility issues.
- Chipset Drivers: Download and install the latest AMD chipset drivers from the AMD website.
- Graphics Drivers: Install the latest graphics drivers from AMD or HP's support page.
Run Hardware Diagnostics
- HP Hardware Diagnostics: HP provides built-in diagnostics tools. Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears. Then press F2 to run System Diagnostics.
Check for Overheating
- Overheating can cause instability. Ensure that your laptop is properly ventilated and check for dust buildup. Monitor temperatures using tools like HWMonitor or Core Temp.
Disable Hardware Acceleration in Browsers
- Chrome: Go to Settings > Advanced > System and turn off "Use hardware acceleration when available".
- Edge: Go to Settings > System and performance and turn off "Use hardware acceleration when available".
Perform a Clean Boot
- A clean boot helps to eliminate software conflicts. Follow the steps provided by Microsoft here.
Check Event Viewer for Errors
- Open Event Viewer (type eventvwr in the Run dialog) and look for errors or warnings that occur around the times of the issues. This might give more specific clues about the root cause.
Reinstall Critical Microsoft Components
- Reinstalling .NET Framework and Visual C++ Redistributables can sometimes resolve unexplained errors.
- You can download these from the Microsoft website:
Verify System Files
- Even after running SFC and DISM, there might be lingering issues. Run them again after a clean boot:
- sfc /scannow
- DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Reset BIOS/UEFI to Default Settings
- Sometimes, incorrect BIOS settings can cause instability. Reset the BIOS to default settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I have reinstalled the BIOS, Drivers, formatted the drive, reinstalled windows 10 and 11(about 40 times), run all windows Updates and HP updates, tried over 100 combinations of drivers and various number of updates and drivers....STILL SAME PROBLEMS. I run hardware tests, spent weeks on this. HP response for a 1.5 Year old computer...is spend "unknown" amounts of money to send it in. I BOUGHT a warranty which will KICK in 30 days from now! After being told it would take effect in 2 hours. OUTRAGOUS!!!
Really convinced me...I will NEVER buy an HP PC again...I have had 10 HP PC...never trouble HP over anything during all those COMPUTERS. THIS IS OUTRAGOUS...I have DECADES of experience with PCs....this AMD LAPTOP is BROKEN...and I will have to PURCHASE a NEW PC...after just 1.5 years of ownership of the LAST HP I WILL EVER BUY!
