Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop restarted without my noticing while it was running one day, upon looking at it I was prompted with the screen "Authenticate to Save/Restore GPT" I chose option 1, "Enter 1 to overwrite backup GPT with HDD GPT" because I figured the HDD would be the most recent information. Upon booting my computer then, it WIPED EVERYTHING. It restored my computer to a point that I'd say is within the first 24 hours if not less of first setting it up. I have had it for over a year. It just wiped everything except the first 2 programs I had installed on it.

Why the hell did this happen and can I recover the data????

For what it's worth I also had an issue after selecting that option where Windows wouldn't log me in because the "user profile service failed." I restarted it again, it logged me in and the data was wiped.

I used the Windows built in Recovery tool to restore to a previous point. HP software is **bleep** and the first thing I'm doing is uninstalling it.

Pro-tip though, if you offer people an option to restore from a point, list the time/date of the save points so they know which is more up to date. Absolutely garbage software.
