Hello everyone,
I want to upgrade the HDD drive from my HP Pavilion g6 Laptop (factory installed OS was WIN7 but i upgraded it the WIN10) to a faster SSD, cloning the old drive onto the new one. Before ordering the new drive online, I had the idea to test the Samsung EVO 850 240GB from my desktop PC on which Windows 10 is installed on my laptop. But i immediatly get the blackscreen with the message: "No bootable device detected [...]". Although it works like a charm in my other PC!
I already took the following steps to solve the problem but none of them worked:
1) Update the BIOS to the newest version F.27 Insyde
2) Checked if AHCI is enabled in registry, yes it is
3) Reset BIOS to default settings
4) Passed all the memory and hard drive checks after F2
When i put in the old HDD the laptop is booting normally.
I don't want to change anything on the SSD drive as it is currently used in my desktiop PC!
Thank you in advance for any advice that you can give me. 🙂

If only MBR is possible on this Laptop, then i'd like to ask if it's possible to set up the new SSD to MBR in order to work in the laptop. If yes, can i do it with all SSD hard drives or only certain ones?
Thank you for your quick response and your help so far!
That is likely to be the issue.
Yes, you can setup a new SSD to be a MBR volume. The notebook's BIOS will recognize it then.
"If yes, can i do it with all SSD hard drives or only certain ones?"
Please elaborate in what PC or laptop do you plan on putting the " all SSD hard drives" that you refer to.
GPT is part of the EFI specification.
Did the desktop you took the SSD from have an EFI BIOS?

What is the complete product name or product number?
Calling it a Pavilion G6 is seriously giving it a generic description and that does not help any of us when we attempt to determine the notebook's hardware configuration. We need specific information.
If HP support assistant is installed you can take a look at the bottom of any Window inthe HP support assistant to find the product number.

Hi!
There does exist the possibility that only the earliest generation of 2.5" SSD products are compatible with your notebook.
How is the volume on the SSD formatted? Is it MBR or GPT?

I've ordered the new SSD drive and used the MBR partitioning style and used the Samsung Data Migration tool to clone my HDD drive and everything works perfectly now.
Thank you very much for your help and the quick find of the problem!
