Notebook 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Just recently purchased a recovery media from HP and bought a new hard drive. Started up the recovery manager and it got pretty far to the software installation, but then the computer restarted mid load and then it came up with the command prompt in a error message that said "the system cannot find the drive specified." I don't know what's going on. Please help?

Hi:

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you with why the recovery media isn't working but see if this works, to rule out a hardware issue...

The good news is that if you ever need to reinstall Windows, and if the system recovery program/recovery media doesn't work, you can clean install W10 anytime by making your own plain W10 installation media using the Media Creation Tool at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

It will give you the option of making a bootable W10 installation flash drive.  You will need a 4 GB flash drive for this.

The software will automatically work with the Windows product key in your notebook's BIOS.

After W10 has installed, you can go to your PC's support page to install the drivers and available software.

Okay just one more question. Why would the computer restart during the recovery process if it tells me not to turn the computer off?

That's Windows doing that.

When you first go to install Windows, it will tell you that your PC may restart several times during the installation process.
