HP Chromebook - 15-de0523dx
Chrome OS

I have two almost identical HP Chromebooks, save for the processor and RAM.  The older CB (15-de0517wm - i3 and 4gb) has run fine for a couple years - no hardware issues I'm aware of or strange behaviors.

I bought the faster CB recently (eBay - 15-de0523dx - i5 and 8gb), and I keep getting this error message after it is supposed to have gone to sleep, or I close the lid (and it was supposed to go sleep):

"Your Chromebook restarted unexpectedly" (and do you want to restore apps).

I've done powerwashes, etc - and even signed in as a "blank" user so as to know if any of my apps or extensions, etc, were causing the problem.  They weren't.  I also did a "recovery" where the OS is re-loaded via USB thumb drive.

However, I have NOT been able to do a "hardware reset" - nothing happens when I press the keys as instructed here:  https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/3227606

I've seen a couple references in various forums that a HARDWARE RESET just might fix the issue, and, since I've apparently tried everything else(?), a hardware reset is all that's left.

The newer CB does NOT get the error message if I UN-CHECK "lock when sleeping or lid is closed".  So it seems that it's the lock function (after going to sleep or closing the lid) that is crashing the CB.  But why THAT Chromebook and not the other/older one?

I'm running the latest version of the OS on both CB's.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks...
