Hi @rexcon123,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your computer is not using all of the installed RAM, it could be due to several reasons. Here are some potential causes and solutions to help you diagnose and fix the issue:

1. Operating System Limitations

  • 32-bit vs 64-bit OS: Ensure you are running a 64-bit operating system. A 32-bit OS can only address up to 4GB of RAM.
    • Windows: Go to Settings > System > About and check your system type.

2. BIOS/UEFI Settings

  • Sometimes, the BIOS or UEFI settings might limit the amount of RAM available.
    • Check Memory Remapping: Enter the BIOS/UEFI setup (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, DEL, or ESC during boot) and ensure that memory remapping is enabled. This option allows the OS to use all installed RAM.

3. Hardware Issues

  • Faulty RAM: One or more RAM modules might be faulty. Try running a memory diagnostic tool like Windows Memory Diagnostic or Memtest86.
  • Improperly Seated RAM: Make sure that all RAM modules are properly seated in their slots. Turn off your PC, open the case, and reseat the RAM.

4. Software or Application Limitation

  • Individual Program Limits: Some applications might have their own limits on RAM usage.
  • Background Processes: Check if background processes are consuming significant memory.
    • Task Manager: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check the Performance and Processes tabs to see RAM usage.

5. System Configuration

  • msconfig Settings: Ensure that the maximum memory setting is not limited in the system configuration.
    • Open Run (Win + R), type msconfig, and press Enter.
    • Go to the Boot tab, click on Advanced options, and make sure Maximum memory is unchecked.

6. Motherboard Limitations

  • Motherboard Compatibility: Ensure your motherboard supports the amount of RAM installed. Check the specifications of the HP Omen 886b motherboard to verify its maximum RAM capacity and compatible configurations.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
