My 80 year old brother's computer crashed. The drive has been formatted so I tried to use the HP cloud recovery tool. It kept downloading the windows 11 model. I simply need to make a bootable USB to reinstall windows 10 on his computer. I've spent over 40 hours trying to use the cloud recovery tool and it stopped at the end of a 6 hour process saying "windows can not open" and I then have to start all over. I tried downloading the "reinstall windows 10 program" but it didn't set up the USB. The computer is a HP 17-CNGXXX Product 37P29UA#ABA windows 10   HELP.

On some of the newer W10 model notebooks that were released to market around the same time W11 came out, HP updated the recovery images for W11.

If you want to reinstall W10, your only option would be to use the Microsoft Media creation tool to create a bootable W10 installation flash drive and reinstall W10 for free.

After W10 has completed installing you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page:

When you get to the point during the installation process where you are asked 'Where do you want to install Windows,' you will most likely get the message that Windows cannot find any drives to install on.

I have zipped up and attached below, the Intel storage controller drivers you need for Windows to find the hard drive.

This needs to be done for all Intel PC's with the 11th gen or newer core processors.

Copy the 5 files from the F6/VMD/f6vmdflpy-x64 folder to a USB flash drive.

iastorvd.cat

iastorvd.inf

iastorvd.sys

rstmweventlogmsg.dll

rstmwservice.exe

Have the flash drive and your W11 installation media plugged into USB ports.

Boot from the W11 installation flash drive.

When you get to the screen where no drives can be found, click on the Load driver option, browse to the flash drive with the storage controller drivers on it.

If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.

Click Next and W11 should find the drive and install.
