Hello,
I tried a lot of times to factory reset my Stream Laptop 14 in recovery.
I worked so far that windows was reinstalled, but harddisk was still 80% full.
So i started a cmd in recovery and formatted c: (Windows partition) with ntfs, label "Windows"
I thought, now recovery can reinstall Windows10 from the scratch.
But this was an mistake. Automatic repair doesnt succeed when I switch the laptop on. I can boot into recovery. But resetting it from the recovery fails too.
So maybe I need a Recovery medium (DVD or USB-Key).
Or is there another way to reinstall windows.
Recoverypartition seems to be ok. Why it cant reinstall windows? What am I missing?
Thank you.

Hi:
When you formatted the C:\ partition, the recovery partition doesn't have the software to run it anymore, as that resided in the Windows partition.
What I recommend you do is to use the Microsoft media creation tool at the link below to create a bootable W10 USB installer.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Boot from the USB flash drive and when you get to the screen that asks 'Where do you want to install Windows,' delete every partition on the hard drive, leaving just one partition of unallocated space. Click Next, and W10 should begin to install.
After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Thank you for this idea. I had a nearly the same as the last option. But where will I get the Licence key for Windows?
Nearby: what kind of stupid system is that to put the software for recovery not to recovery partition.
I would more like to have an original recovery medium for this device (as I need it when the Harddisk fails). But in the german support page, there is no phonenumber, contact Form or mail address, or a download link.
So I'm a little bit lost.
Do you know, how to get support from HP?
Thank you again.

Hi
To supplement Paul's excellent answer...

https://www8.hp.com/de/de/contact-hp/phone-assist.html
The Stream probably has a 32 GB solid state drive. Hopefully entering the SKU here
will give you access to the manuals and drivers for your device.
If in doubt please ask.

You're very welcome, @bdrockford
The product key is in the BIOS.
As long as you install the version of W10 the key is good for, W10 will install and automatically activate.
Since you didn't provide the model number or product number of your Stream 14, you may have another option.
Most HP PC's made in 2016 or later can use the HP cloud recovery client utility which you use to create a bootable recovery drive that is supposed to restore the hard drive to its 'out of the box' condition.
Here is an info link for how to use that utility...
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06162205
If it accepts your notebook's product number, you will be able to create the recovery media.
There is a quirk with how you enter the product number.
Right after you enter the information in the window, press the Enter key.
If you click off that box (like most of us would normally do), you will get an invalid product number error.
I will say that with the method I proposed, you will have the maximum amount of hard drive space available for a few programs and files, and future Windows updates.
HP now supplies a minimum 64 GB eMMC drive on those Stream models due to the multitude of complaints.

I will try this soon, But I think I bought it before 2016...
I also tried to find a (expensive) recovery media in hp support online shop, but it says to me, that for my product number no recoverymedium can be found, but it offered a (german) phone number, where I can call on Monday.
I also had a look at the official Video from HP to completely reset the PCs with Win10. but exacty the menu entry for reformatting and reinstalling in recoverysystem is missing on my device. I only can reset (with or without leaving my personal files), but both of them fail.

Ok for the moment I cant install the Cloud Recovery Tool because I have only a Win10 x86 System. Now I need to organize a computer with a Win10 x64 Pro to install it from the MS-Store (why cant I download it from HP).
Then I will (or will not) to be able to create an USB-Key for recovering my HP Stream 14.
If there is a page, which tells me, which devices are suppored (not for running the Tool but for getting recovered), it would save a lot of work.
Or has anybody the Cloud Recovery Tool installed here and would please try the Product ID 1TR64EA#ABD
Country is Germany, OS was Win10Home.
So I could save the time to install it, if there is no support for this ProductID
Thank you a lot.
What a winding road to go...

So thank you all for adding ideas, Paul of course for the hint for this Cloud recovering tool and testing the product id.
I'll try it, when I have a 32GByte USB-Key and a 64bit Win10Pro.
Happy new year everybody.
