HP ENVY m6 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

On an HP ENVY m6 Notebook PC, did a 'factory reset'. The process seems to have 're-installed' a Windows10 ?basic? setup while uninstalling my 'personal' added apps.

Will this installed-Windows10 continuously [tried several times] prevent me from reverting back to the Windows8, as HP does not 'support' Windows 10' on this 2012-laptop .

thanks

Hi:

What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?

Use this guide to find that information,

If you want to go back to W8.1, I can give you a free way to create W8.1 installation media to reinstall W8.1, but I need to know if your PC originally came with W8 or W8.1.

I'm hoping that it doesn't become a major issue, but lately I've hearing that 'click-tock' sound -more frequently- that PC-harddrives would make when the ?head"? crashes … the above seems to indicate that the laptop still has a ?wim?-2012-version- file for recovery(that I thought was being used during my reset process 🙂

Saw mentions(during checks) that 'speaker' was ?unplugged?, Don't see in -above-, but an 'HDMI' ?audio? was seen as

?an output? somewhere also... ...

Since you still have W10 on there...

See if installing this W10 IDT audio driver from a newer model notebook and restarting the PC gets the sound to work correctly.

If that doesn't work, then here is how you can clean install W8.1 for free by using the W8 product key in your notebook's BIOS.

Install W8.1 by creating the Microsoft installation media, using another Windows PC, if yours is not working...You want W8.1 64 bit.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, use this generic key.

This is the generic key for W8.1 'Standard.'

When you get to the screen that asks 'Where do you want to install Windows,' delete every partition on the hard drive, leaving just one partition of unallocated space. Click Next, and W8.1 should begin to install.

If you had to enter the generic key, manually change the generic product key to the W8 key in your PC's BIOS in the PC settings menu.

After you get W8.1 installed, and you had to manually enter the W8.1 generic product key, you will need to run the free utility I zipped up and attached below, that will show you show the W8 product key in your PC's BIOS.

I have also zipped up and attached below, the Microsoft tool which hopefully will transfer the ISO file to a DVD or USB flash drive so it is bootable.

Then you can install the available drivers and software from your PC's support page.
