resetting laptop (keep files)

When we do a system reset with the option of keeping files, do the personal data in C such as pictures, documents, downloads  and other softwares installed such as java, or java files stay? Also, do apps such as chrome etc get deleted?

There's no simple answer -- because there are different forms of system reset.  Some preserve only the OS and remove everything else; others preserve the OS and any apps you installed from the Windows Store.  I don't believe any system resets preserve all your apps and personal data files.

There is also something known as a Repair-Install, which is not s system reset, that rewrites Windows system files and leaves everything else intact.  But you need Window install media for that.
