bought 2 17inch laptops from an Ebay seller i thought were new. he did not state that it blew the HP warranty. they were new but had his ram drives installed. sounded like a decent buy but shortly after 35 days they both quit, HP wont repair, he wont stand by his product and Ebay was no help. i will never buy another HP product again. i have started a claim with the BBB and is there anything else i can  do.

@mahkram,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

I am very sorry to hear about your experience -that's understandably extraordinarily frustrating.

What likely happened is that the seller modified the systems (e.g., upgraded RAM/storage before resale). In many cases, this means the units are no longer covered under the original HP Warranty, especially if the seller is not an authorized reseller. HP -or any other OEM Manufacturer typically only honors warranties for products sold through approved channels or in original factory configuration.

At this point, you still have a few practical options:

  • eBay escalation: If the purchase was recent, try reopening or appealing your case through eBay support —especially under "item not as described", since warranty status was not disclosed.

  • Payment dispute: If you paid via credit card or PayPal, you may be able to file a chargeback or buyer protection claim.

  • Consumer protection complaint: In addition to the Better Business Bureau, you can file with your state's Attorney General or consumer protection office.

  • HP repair (paid): Even if out of warranty, HP may still offer paid repair options or diagnostics.

What can I say? For future purchases, it's generally safest to buy from HP directly or from authorized retailers to ensure full warranty coverage.  Regardless of what you buy, be wary for 'deals' that may appear too good to be true.

Kind Regards,
