*“For the last two years, my laptop has been facing random system crashes. When I was using Windows earlier, it used to show Blue Screen errors, freeze suddenly, and restart on its own. After that, I switched to Linux Mint. Initially it worked fine for a few days, but later it started showing kernel panic errors.

Even now, the laptop randomly freezes, the screen gets stuck, the keyboard stops responding, and sometimes even the Caps Lock light stops working before the system restarts automatically.

Hi @Aryan15s,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

Kindly follow the below troubleshooting steps :

Step 1: Perform a Hardware Diagnostic

Shut down your laptop completely.

Turn it on and repeatedly press the Esc key until the Startup Menu appears.

Press F2 to open the System Diagnostics.

Run a Quick Test for memory and hard drive.

If no issues are found, run the Extensive Test for a more thorough check.

Step 2: Check for Overheating

Ensure your laptop is on a hard, flat surface to allow proper ventilation.

Clean the air vents and fan from dust using compressed air.

You can monitor the CPU/GPU temperature using software tools (like HWMonitor on Windows or lm-sensors on Linux).

Step 3: Update System Firmware and Drivers

Go to  https://support.hp.com/in-en and enter your laptop model.

Download and install the latest BIOS/UEFI firmware, chipset drivers, and graphics drivers.

After updating, restart your laptop and check if the issue persists.

Step 4: UEFI Test Memory and Storage

Faulty RAM or hard drives often cause both Windows BSOD and Linux kernel panics.

Step 5: Perform a Clean Operating System Installation

Backup all your important files.

Reinstall your preferred operating system (Windows or Linux) from scratch.

Avoid installing third-party software initially, and monitor if crashes still occur.

I hope this helps.
