Hi @ajinkya18,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue with your HP Laptop PC 15 not starting without the charger and showing a battery error message indicates a problem with the battery. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

Steps to Troubleshoot Battery Issues:

Check the Battery Connection:

  • Ensure the battery is properly seated and connected.
  • If the battery is removable, take it out, clean the contacts with a dry cloth, and reinsert it securely.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds to discharge any remaining power.
  • Reconnect the battery and charger, then try to power on the laptop.

Check the Battery Status in BIOS:

  • Turn on the laptop and press the appropriate key (usually F2, F10, ESC, or DEL) to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.
  • Look for battery information to see if the BIOS recognizes the battery and check its status.

Run a Battery Test:

  • HP laptops often have built-in diagnostics. Turn off the laptop, then turn it on and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI screen appears.
  • Select "Component Tests," then choose "Battery" to run a diagnostic test.

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • Make sure your BIOS and battery drivers are up to date. You can download the latest versions from the HP support website specific to your laptop model.

Battery Calibration:

  • Fully charge the battery to 100%.
  • Unplug the charger and let the laptop discharge completely until it shuts down due to low battery.
  • Recharge the battery to 100% again without interruption.

Check for Windows Battery Issues:

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional power settings.
  • Select "Choose what the power buttons do," then "Change settings that are currently unavailable," and ensure "Turn on fast startup" is unchecked.
  • Go to Device Manager > Batteries and right-click on each item under "Batteries" and select "Uninstall device." Restart the laptop to reinstall the drivers.

Inspect the Charger:

  • Ensure the charger is working properly and providing the correct voltage.
  • Try using a different compatible charger to see if the issue persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
