Hi @Agatheesh

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Pavilion 14 dv-2014tu is shutting down automatically when you plug in the charger, this could indicate several possible issues, including power supply problems, battery issues, or hardware conflicts. Below are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

1. Check the Charger and Power Source

  • Inspect the Charger: Make sure the charger you're using is the original one provided with the laptop or a compatible replacement. An incompatible or faulty charger can cause the laptop to shut down when plugged in.
  • Check the Power Cable: Ensure the power cable is properly connected and that there are no visible signs of wear or damage.
  • Test a Different Power Outlet: Try plugging the charger into a different power outlet to rule out an issue with the outlet itself.

2. Inspect the Battery

Sometimes, a malfunctioning or damaged battery can cause the system to shut down when the charger is plugged in.

  • Remove the Battery (if removable): If the laptop has a removable battery, try removing it and then plugging the charger in. If the laptop stays on without the battery, the battery may be faulty and needs replacing.
  • Battery Health Check: If the battery is non-removable, check the battery health using software tools like HP Support Assistant or Windows Battery Report.

3. Check the Power Settings in Windows

There may be a setting in Windows that is causing the laptop to shut down when the charger is connected.

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options and check the power plan settings. Try changing the power plan to Balanced or High Performance and see if the issue persists.
  • Disable Fast Startup: In some cases, fast startup can cause issues. You can disable it by going to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable and unchecking Turn on fast startup.

4. Update Drivers

Outdated or corrupt drivers, especially for the battery or power management, could cause the laptop to shut down.

  • Update Battery Drivers: Go to Device Manager > Batteries, right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and select Update driver.
  • Update BIOS and Firmware: Check for any BIOS updates for your HP Pavilion model. BIOS updates often fix power-related issues.

5. Check for Overheating

If the laptop is overheating, it might automatically shut down to protect itself when power is applied.

  • Clean the Fans: Ensure the cooling vents and fans are not obstructed by dust or debris. You can use compressed air to blow out any dust.
  • Monitor Temperature: Use software like HWMonitor or Core Temp to check the internal temperatures of the CPU and GPU when the charger is plugged in. If the temperatures are too high, it could be causing the shutdown.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
