Not sure on the operating system. My “update” has been sitting on the “getting windows ready don’t turn off your computer “ screen for 2 hours.

Try to calm down and lets try to get your laptop working first. Hold the power button until it shuts down. After a brief wait press the power button to turn it on and immediately start tapping the F11 key at top of keyboard. Follow the steps here to do a System Recovery:

Sounds like your OS is Windows 10 and the Fall Creators Update is installing. It can take quite awhile so be patient. If it has not completed within another hour-post back.

It’s not back up. I got scammed by a person posing as an HP agent. I tried getting help from the actual HP technical because I’m still in my 90 days and he said I had to pay the fee for them to look and if I didn’t I was basically out of luck. Sam the HP tech was really rude to my problem. My problem started when I first went to the HP support for my printer and a chat box popped up in an HP window. So I’m in tears because I have a new computer that has been spinning for 8 hours now and HP tech support all but called me stupid and said there was no need to give me a case number.

The real HP agent “Sam” was not nice and I’d like file a complaint against him. But I’m afraid to go to any website now. I did get ahold of the FTC posted on HPs website and filed a complaint against the hackers but I feel “Sam” could use some customer service skills. I would have paid HP to fix it but not after talking to him.

Oh my Goodness Cheryl, it appears to be working. Ive followed the instructions as posted. Don’t mean to sound irritated. I’m so grateful. If I had read the fraud alerts on HP’s website prior I would not be having these issues at the moment.
Thank you so much for your post!!

You're very welcome.   I understand the frustration with being scammed and messing up your laptop. Hopefully this will get you in much better shape pc wise and mood.

HP site has been a target of scammers lately and they have tried to post warning so visitors are cautious but I know when looking for solutions to a problem sometimes they can be overlooked.

This is so true. I just can’t thank you enough for taking the time to reply to me.
My laptop is still installing the software but I’m sure when it’s all finished It’ll be like brand new again.
Thank you again so much.
