Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just got the Smart hard disk error, so F2 and ran the disk test in system diagnostics and got a failure.

Failure ID: 90AC5L-76CMX-MFKR7G-60CE03 Product ID: G4X21PA#ABG

The laptop is out of warranty, it's just over 3 years old.

What can do I to fix this error?

The hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. A retail 2.5" laptop SATA hard drive can be used-Western Digital,Seagate,Toshiba, etc
Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use HP Recovery Media to install Windows. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity. For instance if you have a 500GB hdd you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd.

Thanks, so would either of these HDD be ok, I currently have a 750GB HDD installed. Western Digital WD10JPVX 1tb or Seagate Barracuda 1tb ST1000LM048 . Do I have to do anything before installing the new HDD? I'm running Windows 10.

Either of those should be fine. Nothing to do before installing it-after installing you will boot from your Recovery media to install Windows.
