Hi all,

I previously had a problem with enabling the Virtual Machine Platform, which raised a new issue. I'll post at the end how I solved my previous problem which was the unability to activate Virtual Machine platform, with the installation stuck.

I have 2 windows os, one on a 1st SSD, another on a 2nd one, I have the screen where to chose the OS. But the keyboard is not working, so I'm not able to select. If I want to change I need to boot, do msconfig, switch boot order, then reboot. Not very efficient.

Anyone encountered this behavior ?

regards

Previous issue : Virtual Machine Platform install stuck at some percentage of progress

What I did :

 - desactivate bitlocker

- I have a second SSD, so I installed windows on this one

- I tried to install the Virtual Machine Platform on this new one > worked immediately

- before to go further, I tried again in the original OS and .... by miracle it worked immediately !!!

Then I've been able to install WSL.

Hi @Firelemure,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Does the keyboard work normally once Windows has loaded?
  • Are you using a built-in laptop keyboard or an external USB keyboard?
  • Have you noticed if the keyboard lights (Caps Lock, Num Lock) respond at the boot menu?
  • Did this issue start only after enabling/disabling BitLocker or installing the second OS?

 Suggested Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check BIOS/UEFI settings
    • Restart your laptop and press Esc/F10/F2 (depending on model) to enter BIOS.
    • Verify that USB legacy support or keyboard support at boot is enabled.
  2. Try a different keyboard
    • If you’re using the built-in keyboard, connect an external USB keyboard and see if it works at the boot menu.
    • If you’re already using an external keyboard, try another port or a different keyboard.
  3. Update BIOS and drivers
    • Visit HP’s support site for your model and ensure the BIOS is up to date.
    • Update chipset and keyboard drivers in Windows.
  4. Disable Fast Boot
  • In BIOS, disable Fast Boot. Sometimes this prevents peripherals from initializing in time for the boot menu.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for answering !

some updates

  • Does the keyboard work normally once Windows has loaded?

Yes

  • Are you using a built-in laptop keyboard or an external USB keyboard?I tried both. Laptop keyboard and external USB
  • Have you noticed if the keyboard lights (Caps Lock, Num Lock) respond at the boot menu? The num lock does NOT respond in the menu
  • Did this issue start only after enabling/disabling BitLocker or installing the second OS?Esc at book, F10 to access bios is working. It occurs after the bios and before windows launch.  I can't say it happened before disabling bitlocker because the OS switch screen appeared becaure I had to try fixing my previous issue with a second OS. To install the second OS, I had to disable bitlocker. After installation, updates, plenty of reboots (OS are working well), I have the boot screen. Neither mouse or keyboard was working.

Update :

This morning, I had been able to activate the keyboard ONCE. It is maybe linked to usage of keyboard before to enter the Bios. But I've never been able to reproduce !!

But since then my MOUSE is now working every time ! (keyboard is still not working)
