Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello

Due to hardware problems, I had to completely reformat the hard disk of the laptop. All recovery partitions have been removed. My operating system is windows home premium rus 64 bit. After that, I installed OS from the "clean" distribution of windows received from my friends. When installing, I entered the registration key located on the sticker of my laptop. After performing the updates (sp1, etc.), after a while, a notifcation has appeared that my copy of windows is not genuine. Why did this message appear and how can I correct this situation.

Thank you in advance.

It might be best to ask Microsoft why your system is not activating with the OEM product key on the Certificate of Authenticity stuck to the device. I believe they offer free support for activation issues and they are the only people who can provide a definitive answer as to why Windows is not activating.

@VladL

Hello;
Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Hard to answer your question because, basically, you should not be getting that error message -- presuming the copy of Win10 install media you got from your friends is legitimate.

When Win10 was first used and connected to the Internet on your PC, Microsoft registered your product key (and other information) with their Servers.  After that, any reinstallation of the same version (i.e., Home versus Pro), should then reactivate automatically without issue.

If you used a different version than what was on your PC, it either would not activate or it would deactivate -- which might be the issue.

The best solution, in terms of compatibility, would have been to reinstall the same original Win10 version that came preloaded on your PC but that would have required something known as HP Recovery Media and you have to purchase that.

If you don't want to do that, then my suggestion is to use this Microsoft tool to download and create fresh installation media and reinstall from that:  Windows 10 download

Is it possible , that Windows activation problem is related to some hardware / software changes ? I added new RAM module ,  updated BIOS , disabled additional Graphic card in BIOS.

I have asked MS support in their chat and they helped me with activation.

Support engeneer removed my registation key from system, rebooted laptop, and enter same registration key again into system. After that activation has been done successful.
