a while back (about early-mid 2024) my touchpad stopped working but the mouse worked perfectly fine. after going through multiple support chats i was told repeatedly to uninstall the HID driver and restart so that it would update or something but after doing it multiple times both the HID compliant driver and the one under mice & other pointing devices disappeared. everything else works fine, it is just the touchpad I am having issues with
i attempted a hard reset (although I'm unsure if I did it wrong because I followed the AI support's instructions), did a complete reset (including files), tried to find the driver in the hp software/drivers section (the detection said I wasn't missing any drivers for some reason)
additionally the AI chatbot told me that since there was no 'touchpad settings' it means that windows doesnt detect a touchpad at all but again I'm unsure if it's reliable
i haven't used this laptop myself for a while and this would be very helpful if I got it fixed, thanks

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand the concern. Based on what you've described, you've already performed several meaningful troubleshooting steps, including uninstalling the HID drivers, resetting Windows, performing a reset of the PC, and checking HP driver updates.
Since Windows no longer shows Touchpad settings and the touchpad-related drivers have disappeared from Device Manager, it suggests that the touchpad hardware is currently not being detected by the system.
Please try the following steps:
Check the BIOS
- Shut down the notebook.
- Power it on and immediately tap F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
- Use the keyboard to navigate through the menus.
- Look for an Internal Pointing Device or Touchpad option (if available) and ensure it is Enabled.
- Save changes and restart.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Turn off the notebook.
- Power it on and repeatedly tap Esc, then press F2.
- Run the Component Tests > Touchpad test (if listed).
- Also run the Extensive System Test.
Check for Unknown Devices
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices and Other Devices.
- Look for any device with a yellow warning icon.
- If present, right-click and select Scan for hardware changes.
Perform a BIOS Update
- Install the latest BIOS available for the HP ENVY x360 13-bf0000 series from HP Support: Link
Restore BIOS Defaults
- Enter BIOS using F10.
- Select Restore Defaults.
- Save and Exit.
If the touchpad is not detected in BIOS or does not appear during HP Hardware Diagnostics, the issue is likely related to the touchpad hardware connection or the touchpad module itself rather than Windows or the driver.
After completing the diagnostics, please share whether the touchpad appears in BIOS or if the HP Diagnostics tool detects the touchpad component. This will help identify the next appropriate HP troubleshooting step.
Take care, and have an amazing day!

hello, thank you for your response.
admittedly, I was reluctant to tell myself it was a hardware issue due to the potential cost of a repair however after going through these steps I can confidently say that it is most likely due to hardware. again, thank you a lot for your help
