I am tired of Windows 10....I want to instal Ubuntu (version18.04-desktop-amd64) on my HP Pavilion Power

typenr: 15-CB040ND. I have made a bootable USB. It looks like Ubuntu  starts, but then  finally throws an error like this:

(initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system. I searched on internet for this error and tryed the following things:

the same USB with bootable Ubuntu works on another laptop

formatted the USB disk (not fast way).

different USB installers: universal USB installer 1.9.8.2 and Rufus 3.1

Ubuntu keep throwing  the same error. Does anybody has a solution?

I hope the designers of HP antcipated on the popularity of Ubuntu and make this operating system possible on their consumer systems.

HP only warranties their PCs for usage with the OS that comes preinstalled.  IF you replace that or add a different OS, then you assume full responsibility for maintaining that other OS -- as HP then provides  assistance only on Redhat and then only to commercial customers.

Your best bet for Linux support, since HP does not provide Linux drivers, is to contact the support forum for the Linux distro you are trying to install   -- in this case, the Ubuntu Forums:  http://ubuntuforums.org/

In the case of Ubuntu or Mint, both Distros will run in Live Mode by booting from the installation media and selecting the option to Try the OS, NOT to Install it.  That's the best way to see if your PC will run Linux well.  Any hardware that does not work will then range from simple (if there are Linux drivers available) to impossible (if ther are NO Linux drivers available) to install.

Folks there have experience using HP machines with Linux and know a lot about driver sources and installation issues.

Good Luck

Sounds like there's something wrong with the usb image. I've seen problems like this before, and three things that have worked for me are

   1) using different software to setup the usb drive (like SUSE Studio's imagewriter or GNOME Multi-writer - the ones that take longer work better),

   2) enabling "legacy support" in bios but be aware you forfeit protection against certain kinds of virus if you do so, and

   3) trying a different distro (openSUSE in my case).

Good luck.
