Hi @immy4

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you couldn't find a fingerprint scanner compatible with Windows Hello Fingerprint" on your HP laptop, it usually indicates that Windows is unable to detect the fingerprint reader due to a driver, BIOS, hardware, or Windows configuration issue. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Confirm the Laptop Has a Fingerprint Reader

  • Check whether your HP laptop model is equipped with a fingerprint reader.
  • Some HP models are sold in different configurations, and not all include a fingerprint sensor.

Check Device Manager

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Biometric devices.
  • If the fingerprint device is listed:
  • Right-click it and select Enable device (if disabled).
  • Right-click again and choose Update driver.
  • If Biometric devices is missing:
  • Expand Unknown devices, Human Interface Devices, or Other devices.
  • Look for any device with a yellow warning icon.

Enable Biometrics in Windows

  • Press Windows + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter (Windows Pro/Enterprise only).
  • Navigate to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Biometrics
  • Ensure the following policies are set to Enabled:
  • Allow the use of biometrics
  • Allow users to log on using biometrics

Reinstall the Fingerprint Driver

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Right-click the fingerprint device.
  • Select Uninstall device.
  • Check Delete the driver software
  • Restart the computer.
  • Install the latest fingerprint driver from the HP Support website for your specific laptop model.

Run Windows Update

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  • Click Check for updates.
  • Install all:
  • Windows updates
  • Optional updates
  • Driver updates
  • Restart the PC.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists and share the model Number of the Laptop.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
