I' m trying to install windows 10 pro onto a new spare 80 gb hard disk for my laptop. When I try I get a message that i cannot install it onto the only partition big enough to hold it. The other partition is reserved and just 15 mb, so not an option. I am guessing the problem has something to do with BIOS settings.

An 80GB drive -- really??? I have not seen one of those in YEARS!
My guess is that such an old drive was formatted using FAT, and modern Windows installations require the partition to be formatted as NTFS. So, check the formatting of the drive and see if that is the issue.
