I have an old HP Pavilion dv6000. It has worked great until I ended up loading windows 10. I've used windows 7 and it worked great. I've had so many problems with going back to windows 7 I decided to remove all of MS software and load Ubuntu 16.04. I've had it on the laptop for 3 weeks and I still can't makes heads or tails of how to load or change anything on the computer. I only have a copy of data from the old files. I also only have a win7 32 bit CD w/valid key; I upgraded to 64 bit when in Win10.
I downloaded Win 7/64 bit onto a CD and am using an external Samsung DVD R/WR loader that has worked great over the years. The internal CD drive hasn't worked for years. I re-start my laptop, press F8 and go to 'boot menu'..two choices..ATAPI CD/DVD ROM drive and Notebook Hard Drive...which is neither of what I have...I go to setup..system config...boot options..CD-ROM Boot/Floppy Boot/Internal Network Adapter Boot (disableed)..
Then there is a 'Boot Order' USB Floppy/ATAPI CD/DVD Rom Dive/Notebook Hard Drive/USB Diskette on Key/USB Hard Drive/!Network adapter.
I can not load via the external CD or from a USB stick...I get "an operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system". If I use esc it gives me 4 files for Ubuntu restarts...
Then Ctrl-alt-delete to restart. and Linux re appears.
Even when I've attempted to load via externally with Windows 7 CD, I've had to try several times...I have twice just taken it to a shop. I can not get into "Bios", as it always asked for a password...which I've never known. Now F-11 and 12 only beeps at me...bios don't come up on F-10. I've spent close to 5 hours trying to remove and instal...nothing.
I'll end up going back to the shop and have them remove Linux and install Win7 Ultimate 64 bit.
I am stuck with win10 on this laptop a ASUS T-300, I don't like it at all but ASUS says I can not go to Win 7 on this. Wish I had know that prior to purchase. I don't need all the trash that comes with win10. It never remembers many of the things I indicate it to do...always having to re-type passwords. As to my HP...I'll never put win10 on that again. I'll do a complete dump and load 7 again.
Thanks for listening and sorry for the long drawn out cry....
