@Littlejoefears,

Microsoft's reasons are legion, but it is primarily a business decision: exclude hundreds of otherwise outstanding processors and expect to see many customers being 'motivated' aka forced to purchase new(er) processors and limit the number of pre-8th gen Intel customer complaints/seeking tech support.

[EDIT:] Revisiting my statement regarding excluding outstanding processors which have built-in TPM 2.0 (one of Microsoft's main reasons to determine Windows 11 compatibility) :

6th Generation Intel Processors:

  • Intel Core i5-6300U
  • Intel Core i5-6440HQ
  • Intel Core i5-6500TE
  • Intel Core i7-6600U
  • Intel Core i7-6650U
  • Intel Core i7-6700
  • Intel Core i7-6700HQ
  • Intel Core i7-6770HQ

7th Generation Intel Processors:

  • Intel Core i5-7300HQ
  • Intel Core i5-7440HQ
  • Intel Core i5-7500T
  • Intel Core i7-7500U
  • Intel Core i7-7600U
  • Intel Core i7-7700
  • Intel Core i7-7700HQ
  • Intel Core i7-7820HQ *

Please note that this list is not exhaustive. Also, there are HP motherboards that support TPM 2.0 through an added TPM 2.0 module to create de facto TPM 2.0 compatibility such as for the i7-7700K. The availability of TPM 2.0 may thus depend on the specific model of the HP motherboard that the processor is installed in.

* As per Microsoft, quote: "Only select devices that shipped with modern drivers based on Declarative, Componentized, Hardware Support Apps (DCH) design principles."

Kind Regards,
