Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

hard drive boogered up by " microsoft support team " from India...you tell customers it's a scam and they do it any way..

i installed a new SSD. when i try to install win 10 from either a usb or dvd created by the media creation tool, or even a legit win 10 microsoft dvd, it starts, the little dots go round a couple of times, then it reboots.   i've reset the bios, and selected legacy boot and stiLL no go. I then used  a win7 USB  install I created and it fully installs. I guess i could try to update it to win 10, but I don't like upgrades.  it has an AMD A10 8700p APU.   Why won't 10 install when 7 did?? I'm stumped!!

Well , the fact that win 7 installed from a USB stick ruled out any sata drive, or TPM issues. Since my tried and true win 7 usb worked I thought I would try my old trusty win 10 version 1507 install USB and low and behold it worked! 1607 & 1709 also worked!  1803 and later would not. After installing 1709, I let run and tried to force the update with windows update tool, it crashed! Just before it crashed it stated that the BIOS wasn't supported?!?! I updated the BIOS and voila win 10 installed flawlessly!  After speaking with the previous owner and asking the right questions, I come to find out that the laptop in question would not update and they would get errors ( they did not know what they meant so they just kept using it the way it was ).

So I cannot check your response as the one that fixed it, I'll check mine!

OK, so it boots from Win7 media in Legacy mode, but not from Win10 media in the same mode?

Did it boot from this same Win10 media BEFORE MS messed it up?

Have you tried booting other UEFI PCs from the same Win10 media?

If you downloaded the Win10 ISO file, you could try specifically recreating UEFI boot media using a free utillity RUFUS.

Thanks for taking the time to read and reply to my post!!

It won't boot to win 10 media in Legacy or UEFI!

Don't know if it worked before as this was a factory install before this happened.

Yes, my media will work in other machines. Usb and DVD.

I've created the media using win media creation tool and rufus from a factory produced microsoft win 10 install DVD.

It seems like the laptop won't allow 10 to be re-installed. TPM or something else in bios??

Yes, it could be TPM or Secure Boot -- try locating and disabling the second.  Also look for a setting that specifically disables booting from portable media.  I had to disable that on a recent HP desktop to get it to boot from USB stick/

I disabled secure boot to get it into legacy mode. It boots from the USB or DVD just fine as it loaded win 7. It starts the win 10 installation as the little window appears and the dots go around, but after a few laps they freeze and then it reboots.  I managed to get the original restore partition from the factory drive and I am going to take the laptop back apart and partition magic the new SSD and copy the restore partition to it. but not until after a pool tournament and a few beers as this thing is hurting my brain!! Never in the 40+ years of computing have I seen such BS as microsoft (and the hardware forcing upgrades) with winblows 10!    linux rules!!!

Well that didn't do it!!   But I did finally get it to load. You will never guess what the issue was, and unless you ask I won't tell.

The answer makes absolutely no sense.

SATA mode, I think?

If you're really disabled Secure boot and TPM security berofe...

It wasn't too difficult question.
