when attempting to upgrade from windows 10 to windows 11 it goes as a far as 8% and dies, I checked that the DPM is active and available, it has done this several times today, and when I go back to windows update it says windows 11 update is available

Hi:
The only suggestion I can offer, would be to try this...
I would make a system image of your current W10 installation prior to updating to W11, so you can easily reinstall W10 in the future. I used the free Macrium Reflect software to do that, under the Backup at Home section.
Along with the system image, make sure you create the bootable DVD or USB rescue drive you boot from to access the system image stored on your portable hard drive.
Macrium Software | Reflect Free Edition
Next, make a bootable W11 USB installer from the link below, (2nd option).
After the USB installation media is created, open it and click on the Setup application, and see if you can upgrade to W11 that way.
If an in-place upgrade from the USB media doesn't work, then the only other thing that I know of you could try would be to boot from the media you created, and clean install W11.
That should work.

You're very welcome.
I had a similar problem when trying to upgrade a fully compatible HP x360 15-ee047nr notebook to W11.
I never got an error code, but at around 98% done, the installation abruptly closed, and I was at the W10 desktop as if nothing ever happened.
I tried all of the things I knew of, and had to resort to clean installing W11.
That worked great, and W11 even installed all of the drivers automatically.
