Hi @FOX51,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand how frustrating it must be to run into installation issues while trying to upgrade to Windows 11. Let’s work through this together to get your installation back on track.

  • When you boot the laptop, are you able to see the USB drive in the boot options menu at all, or does it not show up even when manually selecting the boot device?
  • Have you verified that the USB drive is correctly formatted and contains the Windows 11 installation media?
  • Did you receive any specific error messages when trying to boot from the USB after enabling UEFI?

Let's try these steps.

Recheck UEFI Settings:

  • Make sure that Secure Boot is enabled in the BIOS. Windows 11 requires Secure Boot to be enabled in UEFI mode for installation.
  • Also, ensure that the Boot Order is set to prioritize the USB drive. Sometimes, USB devices need to be placed at the top of the boot order list in UEFI.

Reformat the USB Installation Media:

  • If the USB drive doesn’t show up, try reformatting it and recreating the Windows 11 installation media. Use the Windows Media Creation Tool or a tool like Rufus to create the bootable USB. Make sure to select GPT partition style and UEFI as the target system during the creation process.

Use the "Boot Menu" Key:

  • During startup, press the ESC or F9 key (depending on your model) to bring up the Boot Menu. Select the USB drive directly from the boot options menu to bypass any potential boot priority issues.

Disable Fast Boot:

  • In the BIOS, disable the Fast Boot option. Sometimes, Fast Boot can prevent the USB drive from being detected during startup, especially in UEFI mode.

Try Another USB Port:

  • If possible, try plugging the USB drive into a different port on the laptop (preferably a USB 2.0 port). Some systems have issues recognizing bootable USB drives in USB 3.0 ports, especially during installation.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it may help to check if there’s a BIOS update available from HP that addresses USB booting in UEFI mode. Click here

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
