Hi @nardiatu

Welcome !

Your warranty covers your computer, your hardware. It does not depend on what software you run on your computer and does not depend on the OS version.

Windows 11 is supported based on this list here >> https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/ish_4300937-4295746-16

1. How to do it >> https://www.hp.com/us-en/software/microsoft-windows-11.html

2. Download the PC Healthcheck app and check compatibility >> https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11#pchealthcheck

>> https://aka.ms/GetPCHealthCheckApp

3. Download/install Windows 11 via the Install assistant >> https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11

I followed all the steps provided and updated my Envy 14 laptop from Win 10 64 bit to Win 11 64 bit.  everything worked fine.  Later in the day, Windows updates prompted me to perform a firmware update by restarting the laptop after the update had downloaded.  When I observed the RESTART button on the screen, I clicked on Enter, and the laptop restarted.  From when it restarted, the screen lights up briefly with the HP logo, and the words "Please wait while we install a system update” appeared on the black screen under the HP logo.  Since then it has continually cycled between a black screen and this message.  It seems to turn off and restart - shows the message, and then turns off again, and this cycles about every 5 seconds or so continually.  Can’t remove the battery and flatten the CMOS batter because the laptop is sealed.  Still under warranty but the virtual assistant has been of little value because this error does not appear to be in the options to select.

Hello @RossO8

It seems the firmware/BIOS update has failed to complete. Please, check this article and follow all steps >> https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/ish_3932413-2337994-16

I hope one of them solves your problem.

Hi, and thank you for the suggested updates

To bring you up to date, I found that if I turn the laptop off, and then reboot it while holding down F2, the black screen comes up with the advice it is updating the firmware.  I continued to hold on to F2 and then I noted the message disappear and it was replaced by the Windows “thinking” circle of dots.  This continued for a few more seconds and then the screen came up with the expected screen saver and log in.  I logged in with the fingerprint scan previously set up with the Win10 Pro O/S, and the laptop continued to operate as expected.  I checked the update log and noted that all updates/drivers/etc. showed successful updates. The most recent update was HP Inc. 15.11.0.0, updated that day.  However there was a yellow triangle and exclamation mark beside Firmware.  I opened this and noted under General - “This device cannot start (Code 10). This indicates a revision number encountered or specified is not one known by the service.  It may be a more recent version than the service is aware of”.

Under Driver - the driver was dated 17/9/2021; Under Firmware - version was F160000, Firmware failed to update during the last attempt, 18/10/2021 @ 8:12:34, Last Attempt Status 0XC000058;

Under EVENT is the indication that the problem relates to the UEFI\RES driver oem148.inf and requires a system reboot before it can be started. (Needless to say, on each reboot the laptop cycled through the “updating firmware” to OFF, and restarted to “updating firmware”.

The current situation is that I booted the laptop this morning without pressing F2 and after a few seconds it stated as normal and is currently working as expected with Win11.  However the error alert in the device manager is still highlighted with the same problems.

I am not keen to attempt any further restoration steps until you have the opportunity to review this detailed advice for me.  Otherwise, I might attempt to roll back the device update in default of trying one or more of your suggested solutions.  It seems to me at this point, that the problem lays with the software proved by HP.
