Hi @jamqua,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I read the post regarding boot issues on the computer. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Terrific description and great observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that.
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.
- Did you run the extensive system diagnostics on the computer?
For now please try these steps.
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook: A power reset (or hard restart) clears all information from the computer's memory without erasing any personal data. Performing a power reset might fix conditions such as Windows not responding, a blank display, software freezing, keyboard stops responding, or other external devices locking up.
* Please run extensive hardware diagnostics and component tests on the computer from this link: HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7, Vista)
* Once it is established that the computer has no hardware failure, then perform a system recovery to factory settings from this link: HP PCs - How to Reset Your Computer to Factory Settings (Windows 10, 8, 7) and select the most relevant option that best suits your description.
* HP PCs - Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive.
If nothing works and the complete diagnostics pass, please contact HP tech support to order recovery media.
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true
- Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
- Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
- Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
- Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately. If the unit is under warranty repair services is taken care of by the manufacturer’s warranty.
If the computer diagnostics fail, it will report a failure code. Contact HP phone support to get the computer serviced.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please. Please note that I am not overloading you with a lot of troubleshooting steps. Instead, just like you, I am eager to ensure that the problem gets resolved. Hi @elisa71
Thank you for replying,
As suggested in the previous post, I would recommend you try to perform the test on the hard drive from F2, depending on the test results, If the test passes, you could perform a system recovery and set the computer back to the original factory conditions.
So, I would like to know if you have followed the steps suggested in the previous post, If so, please respond to this post with the results for further assistance.
If you haven't tried these steps here, please perform these steps and then get back to us with the results.
Eagerly waiting for your response!
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world

Hi Jeet_singh, yes I went through all the steps of the hw and system tests that are available on my notebook after pressing F2 at bootstrap. the result was that no fault was discovered.
If I press F11 to go to "system recovery", then a message appears saying that I must insert windws installation disc and restart and then click on " repair your computer". but of course I have no windows disc, since the OS came pre-loaded with the notebook.
I repeat: the message says status 0xc0000225, file \Boot\BCD, Info: an error occurred while attemping to read the boot configuration data.
so a "new "BCD file shuld solve.
thanks for supporting, have a nice day

Hi @elisa71,
Thanks for the update.
As I understand you have run the test and it seems to have passed without any errors, and while initiating system recovery from the partition gives an error. I would suggest the next step would be to order a set of recovery media for your PC. This should help you reset your computer back to the factory conditions which should help you get rid of the BCD files.
I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes for further assistance.
