Hello,

I own an HP ProBook 6470b laptop (product number A5H50AV). It originally came with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

While replacing the hard drive and performing a clean installation of the operating system, I accidentally deleted the HP Recovery partition as well. I would like to restore the laptop to its original factory state.

Is it still possible to obtain the original HP recovery media or a recovery image for this model? If so, how can I get them?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Hi,

Since the HP Recovery partition was deleted, the built-in HP Recovery Manager will no longer be able to restore the notebook to factory state from the internal drive.

For the HP ProBook 6470b, I would first try HP Cloud Recovery, but this model/product number does not appear to be listed in the current HP Cloud Recovery supported platform list when searching for “6470b” or “A5H50AV”:

HP Cloud Recovery supported platforms:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/CloudRecovery/crsupportedplatform.html

HP Cloud Recovery Tool:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_4511095-4511141-16

If HP Cloud Recovery does not accept the product number, then the next official option is to contact HP Support or HP Parts/Recovery Media support and ask whether recovery media is still available for the HP ProBook 6470b with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

HP Support:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact

HP drivers page for the ProBook 6470b:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-probook-6470b-notebook-pc/5212922

If HP no longer provides the original recovery media for this older model, then you may not be able to restore the exact original HP factory image. In that case, the practical alternative is to install Windows 7 Professional 64-bit using valid Microsoft installation media and activate it with the Windows 7 Pro license/COA originally assigned to the notebook, then install the HP drivers manually from the HP support page.

So, in short:

  1. Try HP Cloud Recovery first.
  2. If unsupported, contact HP and ask if recovery media is still available.
  3. If HP recovery media is no longer available, perform a clean Windows 7 Pro installation and install HP drivers manually.
