HP ENVY dv6-7210us Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi!

I have this  HP Envy since at least 10 years ago and I never had any problem with windows. When I bought it , it had windows 8.1 already from fabric. Last week my laptop felt to the floor and did not turn on anymore. I called for a technician and they fixed it, they said there was a piece broken and had to replace something in the motherboard. Well now my laptop is working fine, but I keep getting prompted to Activate windows with a blue screen every often, which is kind of annoying. I saw that in that PC settings page it recognized the license and displayed with xxx-xxx-xxx- kind of format, showing the last 4 or 5 letters. So I thought I could find out the key and just put it back to activate. I used a command in CMD to get my license, copied and pasted it to the activation thing and it didn't work out. It says my license is blocked or something like that. I tried activating by nother command in the CMD with the key and it says activation succesful, though is not, because I keep getting prompted to activate and I'm not ble to access or modify some things in the pc. Now afer long time reading online I know it is supposed to be due to the change of hardware. I contacted windows support and they said I need to contact HP provider in order to do the  "OEM license activation on the new hardware" as it came preinstalled when I bought the laptop. I went to the HP support page and did not find any way to contact somebody or some agent to help me. What can I do to solve the problem?

Hi @cabomapache

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that the Motherboard of your system has been changed and from that time you are getting an option to activate Windows. We are here to help you with it.

May I know from where did you get the  Motherboard replaced? Could you also send me a private message of the System Information tab from the BIOS by pressing F1 at the booting stage?  In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link.

Keep me posted.

Thanks!
