Passing a laptop to youngest daughter, wiped and restored with recover disk, but it failed.

Contacted MS and they gave me an ISO to download & install on USB

Rebuilt with ISO and updated all the drivers from HP web site & updated windows 7 to no further updates.

Now system reports there is 1 day to automatic activation; tried to activate and reports that invalid product code.

Machine was supplied by HP with OS installed, Product has rubbed off off the base, so used software to recover to recover product key before it was wiped.

Is there any requirement to activate windows & if so how do I get the correct key 

This laptop is 10 years old but good enough for TEAMS / Zoom for my daughter.

 

I thought cloud recovery might be an option, but this machine is not supported (9 years old)

 

Any help much appreciated

Looks like you have to pay to pass Microsoft license check. For (original) Windows 7 and Windows 10. Please use Cloud Recovery tool:

As I said in my post this machine is not supported for cloud type of recovery.

Machine was registered with HP and they have a record of this.

You can specify the S/N for the machine on HP web site and it states cloud recovery is not an option for this machine.

Either way I have paid HP (and therefore MS) already for a machine and I therefore I should not have to pay again, unless it is just a distribution cost. 

Ideally cloud download would be the best option, but that is no different to the ISO d/l which MS sanctioned therefore still begs the question how to obtain a product key that is acceptable.

How can I talk to a real person at HP about getting my product key from a worn off COA sticker

I've run the MGDA tool and it say I have a genuine MS windows 7, but because it is a SLP the code I can extract using Belarc is not the same as the one on the worn out COA sticker 

 

I registered machine with HP back in 2011 and the system say I have it, so it is genuine all I need is a record of the COA for that machine, not rocket science, but talking to a real person is the only way to solve this, hence the request for a specific number.

HP keeps no records of individual product keys associated with individual PCs.

 

So, talking with a real person will not get you information that HP does not have.

Fine, what is the solution then, apart from to moan at HP as they could produce a sticker that does not last  and get worn off
