So for how many days were you with the older BIOS version alongside Windows 10? And is it that you never faced any issue, no matter how long you use, with that older version of BIOS with Windows 10? If no, then from which version did you update?

My older BIOS is F.09
I did the clean install windows 10 with ISO that came up in July 29. I get this ISO from Microsoft Medi Creation Tool.
It's not even stay for 1 day long and my laptop face the shutdown and sleep problem.
I try last suggestion from this thread to upgrade the BIOS and re-download the ISO and re-install windows 10.
Only try to upgrade the BIOS because i use my laptop for daily work, maybe i'll try to re-install it again at the wekend.
But if the problems persists after that, i'll surender for good and wait for official fix from HP/MS.

Hello all,
Like mentioned by sat3rn I reverted to windows 8.1 then updated my bios to version F42 from Hp support site http://www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html
I then installed windows 10 using the microsoft media creation tool
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install
Just over 24 hours now and my laptop is working normally ...waking up from sleep no problems and going to sleep turning off etc no problems.
I will update in a couple days if its still fine as I know this problem resurfaces.

Do you think it's necessary to use the Microsoft Media Creation Tool to do the upgrade? Or could I just upgrade through the windows update? I have a different HP laptop but I did upgrade the bios to the latest version the other day. Just haven't done the upgrade again yet.

I just got off a 3 HR 15 MIN tech support session in which they remote controlled my laptop (HP Pavillion 15). Two essential items resolved, apparently. The length of time is unimportant as I know he was handling many other users at the same time.
1. The touchpad reset issue is now completely fixed. The Win10 driver for it was blown away and the 8.1 driver was installed and 3 reboots maintained the setting for "disable if an external device is attached".
2. The REBOOT / SLEEP / HIBERNATE / SHUT-DOWN issue has been tested and appears to be resolved -- the BIOS was flashed with the latest 8.1 BIOS in the list in the HP Driver Section. After the flash upgrade, the 6-7 tests run were all successful. Of course, I will be more convinced when I can continue to do the same in 3-4 days or more. I will say that the reboot issue is much different than it was before, at least on my machine. Prior to the BIOS flash, whenever I would reboot, the system would shut down (as it were -- the power light would go out for 2-3 secs) and then come back on and restart. This always seemed odd to me. A reboot should not do that. Now, whenever I call for a reboot the power light stays on (as it should) and the system starts correctly.
3. ADVANCED POWER OPTIONS -- the tech also changed the advanced power options under SLEEP > ALLOW WAKE TIMERS to disable for battery and plugged in. Relevant? I do not know but I do know it went to sleep as it should.
Reverting to 8.1 and installing 10 from ISO never appeared to me to be the best solution. I cannot argue that it might be working for others. However, all indications point in the direction of the BIOS at this point. I will update as needed. I should also point out that I upgraded to Win10 through Windows Update. I did not revert (I really thought this was unneeded). I did not upgrade from ISO.
For those who got things working by reverting to 8.1, upgrading the BIOS, and installing 10 from ISO you probably did more than needed. The real solution appears to be the middle step -- upgrading the 8.1 BIOS (even if you are on 10). Be sure to get the correct BIOS for your machine. Click Win+X - RUN - msinfo32. This will tell you which one you currently have and give you the information to compare with the list in the Win8.1 set. If you do not want to do that yourself see below...
Some of you already had the correct BIOS before upgrading to Win10. I am not sure what that means in relationship to the issue that is plaguing many.
I also reminded the tech that many HP users were frustrated and pointed him to this forum. I advised him that many users were unhappy and it would be nice to hear an official word from HP that they know about the issue and are working to resolve it. He assured me that they have been dealing with this quite often since the Win10 release and they are dealing with it. However, it does appear to be a BIOS problem with Win10. So, my suggestions:
1. Run the HP Support Assistant and go to the SUPPORT TAB
2. Click on the device you need help with if required
3. Select "chat online..."
4. Type in the problem. A chat rep / tech support employee will be along shortly.
5. Grant remote access so they can do what they need to do. Likely it will involve a flash BIOS upgrade if needed.
6. Also -- if you are having the TouchPad issue tell them about that as well. They will fix it.
You will get a CASE NUMBER which will be stored in your HP Support Assistant utility.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience.
Well, even for us too, if we shut down or restart our system without running any big software or installing anything, it would restart/shut down normally as it should. I recommend you to run your laptop for atleast 1 hour, do some installations or uninstallations, play a game, watch a video clip and then try to shut down/restart. Now is it working normally?
