Hi @Scruffy1231

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how inconvenient it feels when the touchpad stops working and you’re forced to rely on a USB mouse. Thank you for already checking the driver menu and settings.

Let’s go through a structured set of steps to restore the I2C HID driver and get the touchpad functioning again on your Pavilion Plus 16‑ab0000TU.

Step 1: Uninstall and Reinstall the I2C HID Driver

  • Open Device Manager (press Windows + X > Device Manager).
  • Expand Human Interface Devices.
  • Right‑click I2C HID Device and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart the laptop. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.

Step 2: Update Drivers from HP Support

Step 3: Run Windows Update

  • Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Install all available updates, including optional driver updates.
  • Restart the system after updates are complete.

Step 4: Enable Touchpad in BIOS

  • Restart the laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Navigate to Advanced > Built‑in Device Options.
  • Ensure the Touchpad is enabled.
  • Save changes and exit.

Step 5: Use HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  • Press F2 to open System Diagnostics.
  • Run the Component Test > Input Devices > Touchpad Test.
  • Guide: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows

Step 6: Confirm Touchpad Settings in Windows

  • Go to Start > Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
  • If the option appears after reinstalling drivers, ensure the touchpad is turned on.
  • Adjust sensitivity and gestures as needed.

By following these steps, you can clear the corrupted driver, reinstall fresh drivers from HP, and confirm the touchpad is enabled both in BIOS and Windows. Starting with uninstalling and reinstalling the I2C HID driver usually resolves Error 10 quickly.
