I am having constant issues with my docking station - 9X481UT HP Thunderbolt 4 Ultra 180W G6 Dock and my EliteBook X G1a 14". i plug it into the thunderbolt port on either side and it takes about 2-4 minutes before the external monitors are useable. it constantly glitches between seeing the monitors and not seeing them. peripherals (keyboard/mouse) work no problem.

tried a factory reset of my laptop and it didnt solve the issue.

dock works fine with the Ultra G1a

Hi @Avi604,

It sounds like you are experiencing connectivity issues when using your HP Thunderbolt 4 Ultra 180W G6 Dock (9X481UT) with your EliteBook X G1a 14" notebook, specifically in terms of the external monitors glitching. Here are some troubleshooting steps and suggestions you can try:

  1. Check Connection Type:

    • Ensure that the connection between your notebook and the dock is through a Thunderbolt™ port that supports data and video capabilities.
  2. Update Thunderbolt and Graphics Drivers:

    • Make sure that your Thunderbolt drivers and graphics drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website for your respective device models.
  3. Enable High-Resolution Mode:

    • If you’ve set your docking station to a high-resolution output for dual monitors, ensure that your system supports such configurations. You may need to enable "High Resolution Mode" in your system settings:
      • Enter the HP BIOS Setup by pressing the F10 key.
      • On the Advanced tab, select System Options.
      • Enable High Resolution mode when connected to a USB-C® alt mode dock option.
      • Save the setting change by pressing the F10 key again.
  4. Settings in Thunderbolt Software:

    • Check Thunderbolt Security Settings in your BIOS and ensure the level allows the dock connection without interruptions.
    • Approve the dock connection in the Thunderbolt software if prompted. Look for the Thunderbolt icon in your system tray and ensure your dock is approved for connection.
  5. Replace Cable:

    • The issue might also be stemming from a faulty cable. Ensure you’re using the proper HP-certified Thunderbolt 4 cable. Check for any visible damage to the cable. If necessary, use an alternative Thunderbolt cable to see if that resolves the issue.
  6. Test the Dock with Another System:

    • It may be worth testing your dock with another system that is compatible to check if the issue persists. If the issue does not occur, it may be related specifically to settings or drivers on your EliteBook X G1a.
  7. Check for Firmware Updates:

    • Check for any available firmware updates for the dock. HP often releases firmware updates that can resolve connectivity issues and so far your dock HP Thunderbolt 4 Ultra 180W G6 Dock is concerned , you can install latest firmware driver listed below
      https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp158501-159000/sp158827.exe
  8. Power Cycle the Dock:

    • Try unplugging the dock from both the laptop and power source for a minute before reconnecting. This can reset connections and sometimes resolve issues.

Hope this helps solve your issue
