pavilion 15-cx0063nu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good morning,

I just bought pavilion 15-cx0063nu laptop.

I have a couple of question, so thanks in advance.

1. Is there some battery utility for HP, managing the charging of the batteries? For example my old laptop Toshiba had such program (eco utility) so when the laptop is pluged in battery is charged only to 80% and stay at this level to save the battery life. My habit is to keep the laptop always pluged in and never sheck the percentage of the battery.

2. Is there a way to understand if NUM Lock is turned on/off. For example CapsLock has light indicator. Many passwords I use include numbers and I am confused if NUMLock is turned off or on.

3.Is there a way to manage the keyboard light? I mean there is a key for the light, but can I set it for example if not used for 10 seconds to turn off automatically and when press a key to turn on again?

4. On my desctop showed up a folder with my name (downloads, documents, pics.....etc.). The folder This PC>Users> have two folders: HP and Public. I tried with one file and apparantly the folder My name on the desktop and HP are same, but HP is not my name. Can I change it to my name what is exactly the other folder with my name on the desctop?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi! @yassi, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!

I understand you would like to know if there is a utility to change the battery charge status.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your laptop?

Please share the product number of your PC to assist you better.

Excellent description and a great diagnosis done. It is greatly appreciated.

Yes, some of the HP notebook models have an option of changing the battery charging status.

However, I'm not sure if your laptop has that option. But you can check in BIOS if the battery charge status is available.

1.    Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
2.    Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3.    Go to the system configuration tab and check for battery charging delay option.

4.    If you have an option you can change it and Press F9 to save changes and exit from the BIOS.

Try updating the BIOS and chipset drivers on your PC and check if it helps.

To answer your second query.

Simplest method to check if the Num lock is on: Type one character, then press 4 on Num pad. If cursor moves to left then Num lock is off. If a character is typed in password box, then Num lock is off. When Num lock is off 4 works as left arrow key.

To answer your third query.

Yes, you have an option of changing the back light keyboard settings in BIOS.

Your BIOS version and screens might vary.

  1. Restart the notebook, and then immediately press the F10 repeatedly until the BIOS opens.

  2. When the BIOS opens, use the arrow keys to navigate to the Advanced tab.

  3. Navigate to Built-in Device Options, and then press Enter.

The Advanced tab showing Built-in Device Option highlighted

  4. In the Built-in Device Options, select Backlit keyboard timeout.

  5. Press the spacebar to open the keyboard backlight settings, and then select the timeout setting you want.

    NOTE:

If you select Never, the backlight remains on which could quickly drain the notebook battery power.

    Backlit keyboard timeout options

To answer your last query.

The HP folder on the desktop might have games and HP applications on it and yes, you can change the folder name to anything your like.

Hope this answers your query!

Have a great day! 🙂

Hi @MrRobot

Thanks a lot for the help.

Battery issue is solved. I entered BIOS, there is option Battery Care Function, with 3 options: 50%, 80% and 100% charging. It was set to 100%. I changed to 80% and saved, exited BIOS and started the laptop. Monitored and at 80% battery stopped charging, saying plugged in, not charging. Exactly the same as I now from my old laptop, perfect, thank you!

Keyboard light time I could not fix, as in the BIOS there is no Advanced option. There are Main, Security, System and Exit.

Regarding NumLock - thanks, your solution works for me, just need to get accustomed.

Regarding the folder on my Desktop, this is no problem for me. This folder turned out to be desctop icon (like recycling bin icon). Anyway I cannot change the name of C:>Users:>HP

Apparently this folder is my folder and contains the same as the desctop folder(icon) with my name. When I right click HP folder there is no option to rename it.

My laptop model:

PAV GAMING 15-CX0063NU/5GX53EA

Windows 10 Home 1809 17763.195

BIOS Version/Date Insyde F.11, 8/13/2018

How do I update BIOS and chipset drivers? For chipset drivers maybe from device manager and update driver or I need to go to manufacturer web (I don;t know HP or intel site) and from there to update? Thanks in advance.

So You asked me what updates I did. I bought the laptop 3 days ago. It was comming with Win 10 Home. At the shop they opened the box and turned on the laptop. Then Windows 10 started installation. I waited until installation was completed. Then I returned home and Windows started updating to 1809 and many other updates. Almost half day updating. When this finished, then I oppened HP Support assistant (icon on the taskbar) and then there were many other updates. I waited until finished. About 20 updates. 3 updates could not install. Intel rapid  storage technology driver, Intel Serial IO driver and Intel Serial IO driver Coffee Lake Windows 10 v.1709. These 3 updates still pending in HP Support Assistant.

Finaly I went to NVIDIA page and updated GTX 1050 TI Driver to v.417.35

These are the updates I did.

I tested the laptop with Forza 7, working smooth and nice. As a whole the laptop is working excellent, fast and smooth, no problems at all.

So for me remain only these issues:

1. Keyboard light timeout (cannot find in BIOS)

2. The colors are little strange. The red is going to orange. Is there an option to change color profile of the monitor? Like TVs and desktop monitors have preinstalled profiles (as standart, gaming, movie, ....different names)? Because I can find only brightness to change. Contrast, color, sharpness...cannot find.

3. Sound enchancement is missing. This is not big issue as the sound volume is very high. At master level 20% is the volume is perfect, so at 100% is very high. Really no need enchancemen, just cuirious. Before I had also besides enchancemen also profiles for the sound (for example Live, Disco, Rock, Room, etc.)

If You need something else, let's say some diagnostics, just please let me know how to do it and I will send the report.

Thanks a lot and happy holidays!

Hi  @A4Apollo

Thanks a lot. I wrote reply, but i don't know why it was considered as spam and deleted so I will write again

1.Battery issue solved - in BIOS there is option Battery Care Function 50, 80 and 100%. Chose 80% and works fine. Battery is charging only up to 80%.

2. NumPad - your solution is working for me just fine

3. Keyboard light timeout not solved as there is no advanced menu in BIOS. There is only Main, Security, System and Exit. I search everywhere but could not find build-in devices.

4. Folder on the desktop is not issue for me. Just cannot change the name C>Users>HP, as apparently HP is my forlder

Model: PAV GAMING 15-CX0063NU/5GX53EA

Windows 10 Home 1809 17763.195

BIOS Version/Date Insyde F.11, 8/13/2018

Updates - windows undated all itself

HP Support Assistant - updated about 30 items, 3 still pending

Manually updated GeForce 1050TI driver up to 417.35

Laptop is working excellent, smooth, tested with Forza 7.

Besides the keyboard light, could you help me with the colors. They are little strange. The red is going to orange, green is strange green. Can I change color profiles or manually set them up? Thanks in advance.

Happy hollydays.

@yassi, thanks for your prompt response and time.

I appreciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned you don't see an option in BIOS to change the backlit keyboard timings.

If you don't have an option in BIOS you cannot change the backlit settings. So you can only turn off or turn on the backlit keyboard.

Also, there are no options to change the colours on a laptop.

Hope this answers your query!

Take Care! 🙂
