HP Pavilion AB-125-AX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So, it's been two years since I purchased this laptop. The graphics driver for my system seems to have stopped working. I am sticking with a specific version 17.2.1 to be able to use this system. I simply cannot update the driver even though they are available for my system. The drivers provided by the HP on the site are way too old.

Please help.

Unfortunately, with laptops, you are often "stuck" with the older video drivers that OEMs provide because, in nearly all cases, the video drivers provided by the likes of AMD and/or Nvidia are not designed to work with the specialized vide hardware too often found in laptops.

There is no way around that, sorry.

User can use the force driver method e.g.

The Video stated in your answer is not applicable to my laptop but I would give it a shot.

Based from https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-15-ab100-notebook-pc-series/8499302/model/8960275/m...

Your laptop could have the following APUs

AMD Quad-Core A-Series Accelerated Processor (Carrizo, BGA)

A8-7410 (2.2 GHz, up to 2.5GHz), 1600MHz/2MB L2

AMD Quad-Core A-Series Accelerated Processor (Carrizo-L, BGA)

A10-8700P (1.8 GHz, up to 3.2GHz), 1600MHz/2MB L2

AMD Beema APU

A6-6310 (1.8 GHz, up to 2.4 GHz), 1600MHz/2MB L2

A4-6210 (1.8 GHz), 1600MHz/2MB L2

For A10-8700P APU, GPU driver can be downloaded from

I tried installing the driver already that you are giving through the link. It installs perfectly but the radeon settings won't work giving an error " AMD setting and the driver version do not match. Please try re-installing the driver or try again later. "

Also, I can not access the brightness in my laptop. Something is wrong.

@jimxmy

While AMD makes good drivers, they have a fatal flaw in that they often can't be simply upgraded -- as installing a newer driver over an older driver often does not work.

Try using a utility known as Display Driver Uninstaller to remove the old AMD driver before installing the new one.

You can get it from here:  https://www.wagnardsoft.com

Good Luck

To install AMD setting with forced driver update method

1. Navigate to

C:\AMD\Win10-64Bit-Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-2019-Edition-18.12.3-Dec19\Packages\Drivers\Display\WT6A_INF\B337205

2. Look for ccc2_install.exe and run it.

For brightness control, My laptop has AMD's Virtual Buttons Driver Raven RIdge.

What's your AMD APU model?
