Hi,
Try the following.
Download the installer for HP 3D DriveGuard on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp67001-67500/sp67280.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP 3D DriveGuard and select Uninstall.
When this has completed, restart the notebook.
When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click the installer for HP 3D DriveGuard and select 'Run as Administrator'.
Again, when this has completed, restart the notebook.

Thanks, this seemed to work. But when I think about it this problem first started when I installed Quicken Starter Edition. I uninstalled that and did as you suggested and it worked. Now I'll see if it comes back when I re-install Quicken.
In any case THANK YOU for the reply

Dear Sirs,
I do have the same situation, after a major update on my windows 10 64bits. I've tested both suggestions and it still pops up when restarting.
Is there any other possibility of repairing it?
Kind regards,
Susana

@DavidPK
Hopefully this topic is still being watched.
I have
HP Pavilion 15-p189na
Win 8.1 64bit
The solution did not work for me. I had no problems with this until today.
The one change made coinciding with this error occurring was I installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable as this was required by an application I was updating.
Any ideas what I can do?
Phil

Thanks.
Having failed to find the 3D DriveGuard software on the HP website I eventually ferreted out a copy under support for my laptop under 'driver chipset'. This was sp82228 and seems to have fixed the problem.
